Pixel art tools for Mac
After reading someone's opinion in another thread that it's unprofessional to use Photoshop for pixel art, I decided to look for something more appropriate to use for the art for my next game. It drives me up the wall to see people using Photoshop for things like layout, vector illustration, typesetting, and so forth (I've described it as being like pounding nails with the handle of a screwdriver), so I understand the sentiment here, and indeed, I do find various things frustrating about trying to do pixel art in Photoshop.
The trouble is, I can't find anything good. A Google search turned up Pixen, which I was delighted with for about 10 minutes. It would indeed be a lot better than Photoshop for this specialized task, if it worked... but it's one of the buggiest pieces of software I've seen in a long time.
Mac is generally an artist-friendly platform, so there must be something out there... what do professional, Mac-based pixel artists use?

Photoshop is an IMAGE editor.
PixelArt are IMAGEs.
To make PixelArt you use an IMAGE editor.
Therefore Photoshop is -among others- a PixelArt editor.
(the same applies to other IMAGE editors and styles of art)
I can't even imagine where this 'unprofessional' thought emerged from.
